transport_teamAt times, an infant may require a higher level of care than the hospital in which they were born can provide. The infant can be transported via ambulance using a transport chamber called an isolette. This chamber provides a warm, quiet environment and is equipped with heart and respiratory monitors and sophisticated ventilation equipment.

Sunflower Neonatologist Dr. Robert Holcomb is the medical director for the HCA Midwest transport service, Midwest Neonatal Transport Team. The service transports infants in Kansas and Missouri to the appropriate NICU and then back to hospitals close to their parents' homes after the babies are stabilized.
