Wyatt_and_Carson_052013Our twin boys Wyatt and Carson were born February 20, 2013. They were admitted to the NICU at Centerpoint Medical Center, where they ultimately spent four weeks. After problems with preterm labor at 28 weeks, we were very blessed that they were born at 35 weeks gestation, but needed the NICU nonetheless. Although my husband and I have experience in the medical field, no parent will ever be prepared to have a baby in the NICU, let alone two in our case. The only thing that made the boys' stay in the NICU manageable was the loving, caring staff of nurses, practitioners, and doctors.

We were given constant updates on the boys progress and always able to be fully involved in their care. The Sunflower neonatologists were extremely informative, knowledgeable, and compassionate, especially Drs Simpson, Holcomb, and Hubbard. We always felt like more than just a parent, and more like a part of the team that was working toward the ultimate goal of getting the boys healthy, strong, and home. Thorough daily assessments and rounds were made on the boys with goals for the day that moved their progress along. There were even a couple times Dr. Holcomb waited for my husband to arrive so that he could hear about their progress and ask any questions he had. We never felt in the dark about anything and any question or concerns we ever had were always addressed and answered to our extreme satisfaction. At the end of the day, while it was difficult to leave the boys we felt comfort in knowing they were receiving wonderful love and care while we couldn't be there. Our boys are healthy and strong today because of the wonderful care given by the NICU staff and Sunflower neonatologists.
